Food insecurity in Venezuela has dropped significantly to around 5.3%, according to data provided by the delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade at the 81st session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, held in New York, United States of America.
During its participation in the high-level event «Four Years Left: Accelerating Action Against Hunger and Poverty,» the national representation noted that this historic achievement was reached despite unilateral coercive measures and the crisis caused by the seismic doublet on June 24.
Likewise, it was stated that this progress in reducing food insecurity commits the State to strengthening domestic production, agrifood systems, and social protection policies in order to consolidate sovereignty in this area.
The impact of coercive measures on food insecurity:
To continue advancing toward the eradication of hunger, the delegation emphasized the need to lift unilateral coercive measures. Doing so would unlock productive capacity, facilitate access to financing sources, and allow more resources to be allocated to food security and social development.
Finally, the national representation highlighted the importance of South-South, North-South, and triangular cooperation in sharing public policies and solutions tailored to the needs of the people, reaffirming Venezuela’s willingness to work along with the Global Alliance and the UN under the principle that eradicating hunger is a shared responsibility.
