During her address to the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, reaffirmed to the world the country’s historic rights over Guayana Esequiba.
In this space, which she described as the seat of international legality—the national dignitary made a direct call to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana «to return to negotiations, as mandated by the Geneva Agreement.»
The Head of State emphasized that direct diplomacy is the most effective path for resolving disputes, maintaining that agreements which endure over time are those stemming from bilateral negotiations, rather than the intervention of external bodies.
Under this premise, she highlighted the importance of strengthening mechanisms for mutual understanding to ensure stability and peace in the region, while avoiding interferences that could hinder the process.
Finally, the President outlined a vision of openness and cooperation for the future of Venezuela on the global stage:
«Today, Venezuela aspires with the United States, its neighbors, all the countries of our continent, and the international community to rebuild and sustain relations based on respect and equality,» she sentenced.
