The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, rejected positions that affirm that the rapprochement with the United States compromises national sovereignty. In an interview conceded to TIME magazine, she affirmed that the reestablishment of communication channels and the economic opening strictly respond to the interests of the Venezuelan people.
Faced with the new diplomatic and commercial panorama with the U.S. administration of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Rodríguez defended the legitimacy and central objectives of her foreign policy strategy.
“I am acting in good faith and trusting that these relations will develop in good faith (…). We are opening the country’s economy for the benefit of our people. My current and future strategy has always been to guarantee peace and tranquility in the country: tranquility and social and economic well-being,” affirmed the dignitary.
The Head of State emphasized that the National Executive will maintain a roadmap focused on the stability of the country, guiding bilateral relations towards achieving concrete results in economic and social matters.
