During the official launch of the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA), the Sectoral Vice President for Social and Territorial Development, Héctor Rodríguez, announced that within 60 days a plan developed in conjunction with experts from the United Nations (UN) will be presented to the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez.
Rodríguez asserted that the time has come to “move from rescue to the country’s general recovery, to the country’s integral rebirth, and we want to do this in an orderly, methodical, and scientific manner, with a realistic assessment of the damage and a strategic vision that doesn’t bring us to only rebuild,” according to the instructions by President Delcy Rodríguez.
The Vice President affirmed that the reconstruction is not based on what there previously was, “but rather aims to rebuild with greater quality in terms of resilience to potential future events and a better quality of life for the Venezuelan people.”
Rodríguez asserted that the country’s rebirth and recovery must be done with sustainability, quality, aesthetic appeal in urban planning, a viable and growing economy, and as general guidelines, as has been discussed so far with international teams.
Finally, Rodríguez stated that workshops with officials from the Vice Presidencies of Public Works, the Right to the City, and the Social Protection area will begin tomorrow. “From then on, working groups will be formed and will have 60 days to present a realistic and detailed report with specific guidelines for the recovery of the affected areas, along with a vision for recovery and rebirth,” he affirmed.
