Deputy Rubén Limas announced the formation of an inter-institutional body dedicated exclusively to addressing the road safety crisis. This multidisciplinary team will operate under the coordination of the Legislative Branch’s Health Subcommittee, with the firm purpose of designing urgent strategies to combat accidents.
The main goal of this parliamentary effort is to consolidate an integral plan in order to curb the alarming increase in incidents involving two-wheeled vehicles. The deputy emphasized n an interview on VTV the need for a joint intervention between the State and citizens due to the magnitude of this public health problem.
The legislator, who practices orthopedic medicine, focused his concern on the severe collective harm caused by these incidents on the roads. Limas warned that most of the victims are young people with promising careers ahead of them, a situation that ultimately leaves numerous minors without support.
From a medical perspective, the specialist detailed the serious surgical complications caused by delayed admission of injured people to emergency rooms. Delayed care increases the risk of severe infections or bone complications, which unfortunately leads to amputations or death from severe trauma.
The new structure for accident prevention will incorporate the perspectives and contributions of various key stakeholders in national affairs. To develop sustainable road safety solutions, the discussion panels will include representatives from the public transportation sector, authorities from the Ministry of Health, and spokespeople from motorcycle associations.
