Borders between Venezuela and Colombia will be closed due to presidential elections

In anticipation of the Colombian presidential elections to be held next Sunday, May 31, has been ordered the closing of the land and river borders connecting Colombia and Venezuela.

The measure, ordered by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will take effect at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, and will remain in place until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, a lapse during which movement will be restricted in border areas such as North Santander, La Guajira, Arauca, Vichada, and Guainía.

Likewise, the order includes the reinforcement of immigration controls at enabled border crossings, while limiting transit only to justified emergency or force majeure situations, thus allowing access for emergency vehicles by land or river, in order to prevent possible interference in the elections.
