Venezuela rejects renewal of decree that declares Venezuela as a “threat” to the United States

The Bolivarian Government categorically rejected the renewal of the “National Emergency” against Venezuela that responds to Executive Order 13,692 of the United States administration, which qualifies the South American country as an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the North American security. This was announced by the Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, through a communiqué broadcast on his channel on Telegram.

The document states that, since its promulgation on March 8, 2015 by then-President Barack Obama, the decree has been used as a tool for aggression, under narratives that are far from the truth of the Homeland, that has never represented any danger to the interests of other territories.

“The persistence of this measure, under political premises that do not correspond to reality, only contributes to maintaining narratives of confrontation that do not reflect the true historical, cultural and human ties that should prevail between the Venezuelan and American peoples,” as points out the text.

Finally, the Bolivarian State urged Washington to assume its constructive role in the relations between both countries and abandon its unilateral actions, so that it can advance towards a stage of reciprocal respect, based on the sovereignty of nations and non-interference for shared benefit.

Following, the full text of the Communiqué:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the renewal of the so-called “national emergency” regarding our country, extended on February 18, 2026 by the Government of the United States, in continuity with Executive Order 13692 signed on March 8, 2015 by then-president Barack Hussein Obama.

From its origin, this instrument was conceived without an objective basis nor a real justification, under arguments far from the truth and International Law, qualifying Venezuela in an unusual way as an “unusual and extraordinary threat.” Eleven years later, reality confirms what the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has maintained in a consistent manner: Our country does not represent any threat to the people nor to the government of the United States, or to any nation in the world.

The persistence of this measure, born under political premises that do not correspond to reality, only contributes to maintaining narratives of confrontation that do not reflect the true historical, cultural and human ties that should prevail between the Venezuelan and American peoples.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela urges the Government of the United States to assume a constructive and respectful role in the conduction of its international relations, to abandon unilateral approaches and advance towards a stage of reciprocal respect, a frank dialogue based on sovereignty, non-interference and the shared benefit of our nations.”
