The President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, this Wednesday presided over the presentation of the 2026 Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award, highlighting that communication constitutes an inalienable right of the Venezuelan people and a platform serving the nation’s vital interests. During the ceremony broadcast on television, the national leader advocated for the development of a respectful exercise of communication, free from extremist stances, expressions of fascism, and intolerance within the media ecosystem.
Preservation ofpeace and acknowledgment of journalistic work:
The Head of State noted that this awards ceremony takes place during a time of transformation for the country, aimed at preserving peace, independence, and social well-being. In this regard, she emphasized that the information labour must be grounded in coexistence, respect, and tolerance toward those with differing views, underpinned by the Constitution, international law, and the historical doctrine of Simón Bolívar.
Likewise, Rodríguez explained that the event, originally scheduled for June 27 to mark the anniversary of the *Correo del Orinoco*, had been postponed due to the emergency caused by the double earthquake of June 2026, a crisis during which press professionals worked to report on events and assist the public. Finally, the President commended the work of the Public Media System, Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), and the award recipients from public, private, and community platforms for championing healthy communication in the service of the truth.
