With the goal of continuing to promote food sovereignty and comprehensive social support across the country, the President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, led the launch of the «Venezuela Alimenta» (Venezuela Feeds) Plan, with a national production of more than 90% of items.
This strategic initiative focuses on optimizing food distribution networks, boosting national production, and implementing direct social support mechanisms to ensure equitable access to essential goods in every region of the country.
The launch of the plan coincides with the inauguration of the 250th milestone of the networks of Mercado de Alimentos S.A. (Mercal) and Productora y Distribuidora Venezolana de Alimentos (PDVAL) in La Trinidad (Caracas-Miranda state), which includes a butchery center for meat sales, complementing the 100 mobile grocery units that travel across the country.
The Venezuela Alimenta Plan was officially announced by the Head of State on October 12, 2026, during her participation in the FAO World Food Forum held in Rome.
Strengthening and Advancing the Venezuela Alimenta Plan: «Zero Hunger»
The plan focuses on coordinating state and private efforts to achieve the «Zero Hunger» goal by fostering local entrepreneurship and a communal economy. This involves direct collaboration between community-based production and distribution networks and the national agro-industrial sector, facilitated by the proposed Law on Local Economy.
Among the plan’s six core pillars are scientific and technological innovation aimed at improving nutrition, as well as mechanisms for monitoring and statistical control.
Simultaneously with this opening, were activated ten additional supermarket-style establishments in various regions of the country, further expanding the public food supply network.
The national leader was accompanied by Calixto Ortega, Sectoral Vice President for the Economy; Anabel Pereira, Sectoral Vice President for Administration and Digital Government; Carlos Leal Tellería, Minister of People’s Power for Food; Sergio Lotartaro, Minister of People’s Power for Youth; and Luis Villegas Ramírez, Minister of People’s Power for Industries and National Commerce.
Likewise, participated General-in-Chief Vladimir Padrino López, Minister of People’s Power for Productive Agriculture and Land; Yván Gil Pinto, Minister of People’s Power for Science and Technology of Venezuela; as well as Ítalo Atencio, President of the National Association of Supermarkets and Self-Service Stores (ANSA); and Juvenal Arbeláez, President of the Venezuelan Chamber of the Food Industry.
