President Delcy Rodríguez accompanies return to classes 2026 from the EBN Elías Toro in Caracas

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, presided over the official start of the 2026-2027 school year this Monday at the «Elías Toro» National Basic School (EBN), located in the Longaray sector of the El Valle parish in Caracas.

Accompanied by the Sectoral Vice President for Social and Territorial Socialism and Minister of People’s Power for Education, Héctor Rodríguez, and the school’s principal, Abnelia Herrera, she gave a welcome to the academic term that begins with 6,009,000 students enrolled nationwide, reflecting a sustained increase of 73,248 pupils compared to the previous period.

During the activity, it was highlighted that the national goal is to reach 7 million students, with 80% of the projected growth focused on early childhood education through the opening of 5,000 new preschool and nursery classrooms.

Within the framework of infrastructure and territorial reorganization policies, the «Elías Toro» EBN—founded in 1920 and named after the distinguished physician and UCV rector—reopened its doors fully renovated to serve 322 students and 26 teachers, with 14 classrooms, 11 restrooms, a kitchen, a sports court, an auditorium, computer labs, a learning center, and a dental clinic.

This renovation adds to the 1,474 intervened institutions and 22 schools built during the previous period, alongside the implementation of a territorial rezoning plan that benefited 86,031 students, primarily in Caracas, La Guaira, Miranda, Carabobo, Aragua, and Yaracuy states.
