Venezuela reaffirms ties of friendship and cooperation with Suriname on its 50th anniversary of Independence

As part of the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Suriname, the Chancellor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, participated in the commemorative events held in Paramaribo, representing President Nicolás Maduro.

The visit of the People’s Power minister for Foreign Affairs included his participation in a moving reception with the President of Suriname, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, and in the Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly of the Caribbean nation. Minister Gil described the event as a historic milestone of «great significance» that marks the beginning of a new era of sovereignty and progress for the Surinamese people:

“It is a true honor to have participated in the Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly of Suriname, alongside President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of independence,” expressed the Chancellor via his channel on Telegram.

Likewise, the Venezuelan diplomat attended the majestic parade of the Surinamese Armed Forces in Independence Square, an event which, in his view, symbolized the beginning of a new path toward sovereignty, self-determination, and regional integration.

Chancellor Gil emphasized that this celebration represents a key opportunity for strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations. In this context, Venezuela reaffirmed its commitment to actively participate in the friendship and cooperation with Suriname, as well as in the joint defense of the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

The presence of the Venezuelan delegation on such a significant date reaffirms the bonds of fraternity that unite both peoples and strengthens the shared vision of development and regional integration.
