The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has authorized a comprehensive plan to exploit Lake Guanoco, the world’s largest natural asphalt deposit, according to information given by the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez.
Via Telegram, the also Minister for Hydrocarbons also confirmed the approval of the project in Sucre state.
The initiative, presented by her office, seeks to activate investment and transform this natural resource into national development.
«Venezuelan asphalt will be at the service of the people,» declared Vice President Rodríguez.
The material, historically exported to pave cities such as New York and Paris, will now be allocated to community programs such as «Resuelve tu Calle” (Solve Your Street) and the “Plan Techo Comunal” (Community Roof Plan).
This step formalizes the government’s strategy of prioritizing the domestic use of energy resources for social projects: «Venezuela’s energy resources drive national development and the well-being of the people,» as reaffirmed the high official.
The decision aims to transform a strategic natural reserve into an engine for the local productive economy.
The plan integrates extraction with a model of direct benefit for the communities, strengthening their role in development.
Lake Guanoco, known since the 19th century, represents a unique opportunity for the Venezuelan construction sector.
Its utilization could reduce imports and generate employment in the eastern region of the country.
The approval of the plan is not only an administrative act, but also a reaffirmation of a state policy: to transform the revenue from natural resources into tangible social welfare and the strengthening of community power.
