The Constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, publicly revealed that he had a telephone conversation with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, advocating for a path of respect and diplomacy between both nations.
During a work session with community councils in Petare, the Head of State confirmed that approximately ten days ago he received a call from the White House to the Miraflores Palace. President Maduro explained that he decided to address the matter after its spreading in the international media, although he prefers to maintain discretion in diplomatic affairs.
It is worth noting that the National Dignitary described the tone of the exchange as respectful and cordial, highlighting his training in foreign policy under the guidance of Commander Hugo Chávez. He also emphasized his rejection of what he called «microphone diplomacy,» preferring the discreet handling of negotiations until their conclusion.
Furthermore, he expressed cautious optimism regarding the possibility that this contact represents a step towards a respectful dialogue between states.
Additionally, he reiterated that Venezuela will always seek peace through formal and mutually respectful diplomatic channels.
The President concluded his statement with a call for prudence and faith in a future of peace and independence for Venezuela.
This revelation marks a possible turning point in the tense bilateral relations that have characterized the last few years between both countries.
The official statement reflects the Venezuelan position of maintaining open channels of communication, provided that the principles of sovereignty and equality between nations are respected, as expressed by the highest representative of the national executive branch.
