The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reported that state security forces have seized, destroyed, and burned a record amount of over 63 tons of drugs as of October 2025. The announcement was made during his «Con Maduro+” program on its edition No. 96, broadcast from the Integral Health Center of the Ministry of Interior, Justice, and Peace.
The head of state denounced a worrying coincidence while the United States was maintaining aircraft in the Caribbean: «What a coincidence, they were saying they had some planes in the North Caribbean, north of Venezuela, in international waters, and two drug trafficking planes passed by.» He emphasized that the Venezuelan air defense system intercepted them, applying the corresponding legal protocols.
He detailed that the greatest fight against drug trafficking is concentrated in border areas such as Catatumbo, Táchira, Apure, La Guajira, and the Caribbean. He emphasized that «Venezuela is a fairly healthy society, with a very low consumption rate of any type of drug,» thus refuting international accusations of alleged cartelization in the country.
The president revealed that the goal established by UN reports is to seize 100 tons of drugs, considering that only 5% of regional trafficking attempts to pass from Colombia into Venezuela. With the 63 tons already seized, he noted that «we are close to reaching this figure.»
For his part, the Vice President for Political Affairs, Citizen Security and Peace, and Minister of People’s Power for Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, added that the most effective blow has been against the drug trafficking logistics network. He explained that «setting up a logistical network takes them a lot of time to organize, including transportation, fuel, personnel, contacts, and even officials who lend themselves to these shady dealings.»
As a result of these operations, a significant number of people have been arrested and equipment such as boats and 300-horsepower engines have been seized. These resources are now being used by the Venezuelan state to strengthen the defense of the national territory against drug trafficking.
