The Chancellor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, denounced that the United States «fabricates enemies to justify an alleged right to defense, resulting in massacres in the Caribbean Sea.» The statement came in response to a communiqué by United Nations experts condemning the US use of lethal force in the region.
Chancellor Gil supported the conclusions of the UN rapporteurs, stating that «the experts corroborate what we have been denouncing.» The Head of the Venezuelan Diplomacy emphasized that this US foreign policy leads to serious human rights violations in the Caribbean.
The Chancellor highlighted the relevance of the statement issued by UN experts Ben Saul, Morris Tidball-Binz, and George Katrougalos. He emphasized that these are renowned specialists in human rights, extrajudicial executions, and the democratic international order, respectively.
In his intervention, Gil quoted verbatim the UN document, recalling that «the long history of external interventions in Latin America must not be repeated.» This warning takes on particular relevance in the current context of growing tension in the Caribbean region.
Finally, the Venezuelan Chancellor extended the call for dialogue previously formulated by President Nicolás Maduro. Venezuela’s position reiterates its commitment to peace and the diplomatic resolution of disputes, in contrast to the unilateral actions denounced.
This denounce is part of Venezuela’s rejection of interventionist policies, reaffirming its defense of national sovereignty and international law as pillars of relations between states.
