The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela has formally requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations (UN) Security Council. The request responds to the serious escalation of aggression and an unprecedented US military deployment in the Caribbean Sea.
The request, addressed to the president of the Council, warns that US actions clearly endanger the Zone of Peace in Latin America. Missile destroyers, combat aircraft, elite troops, and a nuclear submarine near its coasts constitute this threat.
Chancellor Yván Gil made public the five-page letter sent to the highest global security body. The document was signed by Venezuela’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Samuel Moncada.
With this action, Venezuela seeks for the Security Council to act in response to this unprecedented situation. The publication of the full text seeks to make this serious complaint transparent to the international community.
