The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, through the Ministry of People’s Power for Ecosocialism, inaugurated this Thursday the 2025 World Congress in Defense of Mother Earth in Caracas. This international gathering will bring together more than 3,000 participants, including social leaders, environmental activists, scientists, academics, and representatives of global ecosocialist movements.
The initiative positions Venezuela as a center of the global debate on environmental protection in the current context of the climate emergency. The congress represents a platform for discussing sustainable development models and articulating collective responses to the global ecological crisis.
The opening journey began at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony began at the La Carlota Convention Center, followed by a shamanic ceremony of «Blessing Mother Earth» at 11:30 a.m. Subsequently, nine specialized working groups addressed concrete proposals in areas such as environmental justice, ecological sovereignty, ecosocial education, and the defense of ancestral territories.
The cultural program included the screening of the documentary «Kueka Ancestral Memory”, a work that chronicles the Indigenous struggle for the recovery of the sacred Kueka stone as a symbol of cultural resistance. The event will run until Friday, October 10, with plenary sessions and the development of joint declarations.
This international congress seeks to consolidate a global agenda articulated in defense of life and against predatory extractionism, establishing mechanisms for cooperation between social movements, progressive governments, and environmental organizations worldwide.
