Venezuela stresses at the UN anti-drug commitment and international cooperation

Venezuela actively participated in the Information Meeting on the Situation in Latin America and the Caribbean Regarding the World Drug Problem, organized by the United Nations (UN) Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna.

The National Anti-Drug Superintendent, M/G Danny Ferrer Sandrea, represented the country in a virtual meeting. During his remarks, he emphasized that international cooperation is an essential pillar in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.

The official also reaffirmed the Venezuelan State’s commitment to the principles of multilateralism and regional co-responsibility. He called for strengthening cooperation and technical assistance mechanisms among nations:

«Venezuela reiterates its commitment to international conventions and the promotion of a constructive dialogue in the region, reaffirming Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace,» stated the National Anti-Drug Superintendent.

Similarly, the national government emphatically rejected the politicized use of the drug issue and the application of unilateral coercive measures. It noted that these practices undermine the spirit of collaboration and harm effective multilateralism.

Concrete results support this position. In 2024 alone, bilateral and multilateral cooperation led to the seizure of 6.72 tons of drugs. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the international coordination mechanisms promoted by the country.

Venezuela’s anti-drug policy is implemented under a comprehensive approach that combines prevention, interdiction, and cooperation. These actions reflect the commitment of the government led by President Nicolás Maduro to national sovereignty and a responsible fight against drug trafficking.
