The Venezuelan government published this Sunday in its entirety the letter that President Nicolás Maduro sent on September 6 to his US counterpart, Donald Trump.
The decision to make it public seeks to reveal the irrefutable truth of Venezuela to the world. In the three-page letter, the President recalls the conversations he held with US special envoy, Rick Grenell. The Venezuelan president maintains that these interactions made it possible to verify the «impeccable record» of the country in the fight against drug trafficking, a recognition that, as he affirms, is endorsed by specialized international organizations.
The Venezuelan President presents maps and scientific data that demonstrate that Venezuela is a «territory free of illicit activities, peaceful, and safe.» The letter warns of a campaign based on fake news and covert operations to attack the country with accusations that it qualifies as obvious falsehoods.
«President, I hope that together we can defeat these fake news stories that fill with noise a relationship that must be historic and peaceful,» wrote Maduro, appealing to Simón Bolívar’s vision for relations between nations.
Finally, the vice president demanded to cease the «US military threat against Venezuela, the Caribbean, and South America,» calling for respect for the proclamation of the CELAC Zone of Peace. Rodríguez assured that Venezuela will defend its sovereignty and peace «in perfect popular, military, and police union.»
Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez explained that the letter was delivered to a South American intermediary to make it get to Trump. Rodríguez justified the official publication by claiming that the content had already been «partially leaked to the US press.»
