Chancellor Yván Gil and the UN analyze US threats to latin american peace

In a crucial meeting for regional stability, Chancellor Yván Gil met with the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Venezuela, Gianluca Rampolla. The main objective of the meeting was to analyze and discuss recent threats and statements from the United States, which, in his view, jeopardize the sovereignty of the region and the status of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

During the meeting, Chancellor Gil strongly denounced the US government’s classification of the region as a conflict zone. He emphasized that this claim is completely devoid of evidence or valid arguments, as the area was formally declared a Zone of Peace by CELAC in 2014, a status officially endorsed by the United Nations (UN).

One of the most alarming points raised by the Venezuelan Chancellor was the deployment of US military units and even nuclear weapons in the Caribbean. Gil described these actions as a serious provocation that directly threatens regional peace and security, violating the principles of sovereignty and non-intervention.

In light of this escalation, Yván Gil reported that during the meeting, the support of UN Secretary-General António Guterres was formally requested. The objective of this call is to «restore sanity» and promote a diplomatic solution that prevents further tensions and preserves the region’s peaceful status, appealing to multilateralism.

The agenda also included a firm defense against the accusations against Venezuela. Gil and Rampolla discussed what they described as false narratives and pretexts designed to justify attacks against the country. In this regard, they highlighted as compelling evidence the 2025 UNODC World Drug Report, which ratifies Venezuela as a territory free of illicit crops.

The Chancellor emphasized that the Bolivarian Government’s exhaustive efforts in the fight against drugs have been duly certified by an international organization as important as UNODC. This, as he affirmed, reaffirms Venezuela’s unwavering commitment to legality, sovereignty, and international cooperation to maintain peace and security.
