Governments of Venezuela and Iran agree to commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations

The presidents of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and of Iran, Mahmoud Pezeshkian, held this Monday a telephone conversation in which they reaffirmed the ties of friendship and collaboration between the two nations, agreeing on the need to strengthen their strategic alliance. As part of the dialogue, they agreed to organize activities during the month of August to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The official statement, released by the Venezuelan Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, highlights the excellent state of bilateral ties, described by both leaders as a cooperation that is progressing with success. They also reaffirmed their commitment to the 20-year Strategic Cooperation Agreement signed in 2022, which promotes projects in areas such as energy, science, technology, health, agriculture, and industry.

During the exchange, the Iranian president thanked Venezuela for its support in the face of what he described as Zionist aggression against his country and expressed his support for the Venezuelan proposal to convene a World Summit for Peace and Against War. This initiative seeks to promote comprehensive solutions to the conflicts in West Asia, with special attention to the situation of the Palestinian people.

For his part, Maduro reiterated his confidence that diplomacy will guarantee Iran’s right to peace and development, underscoring the importance of dialogue between allied nations.

The announcement of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of relations is part of a period of political and economic rapprochement between Caracas and Tehran, which have intensified their collaboration in recent years in the face of international sanctions affecting both countries.
