The Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, denied the recent statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, where he affirms that there was no negotiation between Venezuela and Spain to grant the departure of Edmundo González from Venezuelan territory.
Through her Telegram channel, Rodríguez stated that falsehood is not a good advisor: “Extensive conversations and contacts took place to operationalize the departure of the opposition González Urrutia from the country with the full guarantees offered by a safe conduct, the product of the agreement between both governments.”
“It is a communicational event the landing of a Spanish Air Force aircraft with authorization from the aeronautical authorities of Venezuela,” she emphasized.
It should be noted that Edmundo González left for Spain on Saturday night; the news was confirmed by the vice president herself who said that former candidate González Urrutia had requested political asylum from the Spanish government and this, in conversations with the Venezuelan government, agreed to grant a safe conduct.
At the noon hours of Sunday, the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, through a communiqué read at a press conference, ratified this information and stressed that the Public Ministry respects the decision taken by the National Executive.
It is worth mentioning that González Urrutia’s lawyer on several occasions, including the time he met with prosecutor Saab, had been emphatic in mentioning that the former presidential candidate «had no plans to leave the country for any reason.»
