Chancellor: Opposition lied to the world on referendum activation date

During a meeting with the diplomatic corps, held on Saturday from the Yellow House (seat of the foreign ministry), the Chancellor of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, referred to the subject of the revoking referendum and the political situation in Venezuela.
In this sense, Rodriguez explained to this representation, that the collection of a 1 percent (of voter’s roll) in order to activate a political organization that would collect signatures to revoke the Presidential mandate, should have been activated on January 11 this year.
«The date that had to be given in order for the opposition factors to be able to activate this mechanism is at the precise half of the fulfillment of the mandate of the constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which was on January 10. (…) At that time it was given a political discussion between themselves, where they raised that, of not collecting the signatures in that very month, there could no longer happen a referendum this year, but as we always see, a divided opposition discusses who should be the candidate for the Presidency, and since they did not reached any agreement, they did not collected the signatures when they had do», said the Chancellor.
In this regard, she said that the opposition insists on this process five months later, knowing that it is no longer possible, «Not because we do not want to, but because that is what is raised in the constitution.»
Likewise, she added that at this meeting she also alerted the diplomatic corps on the media attacks that exist at a national and international level on Venezuela, which seek to justify a foreign intervention, «We know that it is a dangerous matrix that is being assembled with the sole aim of taking over our resources. «
