In a gesture that reinforces his commitment to family and spiritual values, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced the approval of May 15 as a National Holiday, in honor of the family, recognized as a date to celebrate life, family and faith, and that starting today will allow Venezuelans to come together to strengthen these fundamental pillars of society.
This announcement came after the head of state joined the Meeting and March for Life, Family and Faith, which began in the Morelos Square and concluded in the Ezequiel Zamora Park, in the heart of Caracas.
This decision follows a series of religious initiatives that began with a meeting on March 6, with the nation’s Christian leaders, where several plans were promised and have now been fulfilled, which included the Holy Week route and a decree tax exemption for religious institutions, in addition to visits by international religious representatives, events that mark a period of promises kept by the government.
The request for this new holiday was presented by the pastor, Josefat Barazarte, and later considered by the president, who highlighted the importance of a day dedicated to «union in Christ, family union, encounter, hope and life.» Likewise, President Maduro emphasized the vision of “weaving a path towards the construction of a new, truly human civilization.”
This event underscores the government’s continued promotion of a better understanding of the social and economic processes that impact the Venezuelan family, considered the backbone of the nation.
