The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, during a press conference this Thursday, indicated that according to statements by Samark López, the fugitives from Venezuelan justice, Leopoldo López and Julio Borges, were directly benefited from the illegal allocations of crude oil shipments.
He explained that through two star contractors, “one of whom had been doing business with PDVSA since the times of Rafael Ramírez, shipments of crude oil were granted for the benefit of Leopoldo López and Julio Borges.” These shipments, as Samark López revealed, were valued at more than one billion dollars.
He also added that there was a second modality, “where these contractors were required, instead of paying the price of crude oil; to send fuel or diluent, to be mixed and produce oil in Venezuela.”
“At least one of these contractors has a long history in the oil industry, and is linked to strong activities in the oil industry since the time of Rafael Ramírez; and had contracts assigned and exported crude oil, and after explaining how different companies were used for corrupt deals, he affirms that Leopoldo López is using the aforementioned contractor as a kind of lobbyist in Venezuela, so that he can return to do politics. This confession is really nauseating. It explains in detail the modus operandi, the amounts of the eight ships that at least El Aissami; Leopoldo López and Julio Borges used it to share the loot,” he stressed.
In that sense, he indicated that the two modalities used were the allocation of oil shipments. The minimum quantity was two million barrels per ship; with an approximate value between 120 and 140 million dollars, depending on the price they had on the market.
“They have no morals to talk about corruption, because they are part of it. What will they say to the opposition bases? That they sent them to the streets while they were very comfortable or in golden exile. Traitors, corrupt people and conspirators unite with their alleged adversaries to do the worst,” he added.
Finally, the Attorney General of the Republic reported that due to these new revelations, the MP prosecutors in the case will proceed to request a new arrest warrant against Leopoldo López and Julio Borges, in addition to a new extradition request.
