Ledezma planned to murder Leopoldo López in 2014

As part of the political situations experienced in the country since 2014, when the imperial campaign against Venezuela intensified, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, revealed that oppositionist Antonio Ledezma, a fugitive from justice, intended to assassinate Leopoldo López who, at that time, was also a fugitive from Venezuelan justice, for leading the first guarimbas (riots) that were generated in the country, with the aim of overthrowing the Bolivarian Revolution.

During the broadcast on digital platforms of episode number four of the Maduro Podcast, the head of state said that reliable information (an audio) reached the Government, where Ledezma was speaking and planning how to assassinate Leopoldo López, at an opposition rally that was planned to be held in the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Park (former Parque del Este), with the objective of blaming the Bolivarian Government so that the United States Government could invade Venezuela:

They thought that with the death of Leopoldo López the spark was lit and they, immediately, would call the gringos and chaos would form in Venezuela,” said President Maduro, considering that it was Diosdado Cabello, under instructions from the government, who saved his life.

In this sense, Cabello recalled that he had to go to the López family home and show him Ledezma’s audio, in which the murder was planned: “I have gone to ugly places, but this one is winning,” said the first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, while ensuring that “the López family already knew it, and if they want they can deny me.”
