The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela repudiates the statements by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, regarding the sovereign decision of the Venezuelan Government to declare persona non grata to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, based on Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.

The Foreign Relations of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela are based on adherence to International Law. In this regard, the Bolivarian Government reiterates its rejection of the restrictive, coercive, unilateral and illegal measures imposed by the European Union against Venezuelan High Officials. These represent an open violation of the Charter of the United Nations. Consequently, the Government of Venezuela urges the European Union to cease its hostile strategy towards our country.

Likewise, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its strongest rejection of the arrogant pretension of the European Union to “supervise” Venezuela as if it were a colony under its aegis. The Venezuelan people, free, independent and sovereign, demands respect for its dignity, and demand that the European Union retract its offensive statement. The High Authorities of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela only render accounts of their actions to the sovereign People of Venezuela, not to groups from foreign powers.

Finally, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela urges the European Union to resume the paths of respectful and constructive relations that historically characterized its conduct towards our country, and that today are strongly compromised by the constant attacks against the Venezuelan democratic institutions. , motivated by the obscure interests of those actors, both from the community bloc, as from outside it, who have hijacked relations between Venezuela and the European Union.
