An affectionate hug defines the reunion of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, with Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab, who returns to the Homeland of Simón Bolívar after being released from his unjust prison in North American territory:
“I want to welcome this brave, patriotic man who resisted 1,280 days, 40 months, in the most adverse, most painful conditions of kidnapping, filthy prisons, physical torture, psychological torture, threats. After 1,280 days of kidnapping, the truth has triumphed, justice has triumphed,” he emphasized from Miraflores Palace in Caracas.
Accompanied by the first combatant woman and deputy of the National Assembly, Cilia Flores de Maduro, who welcomed diplomat Alex Saab upon his arrival at the “Simón Bolívar” International Airport in Maiquetía, he pointed out that there is “a time of vindication of the truth, of vindication” of justice” that buries maneuvers motivated by “hatred, revenge and lies.”
“Now our people will know all the truths, how they have faced infamy. Not a single piece of evidence of the lies that were told from Miami, from Bogotá. The only truth about a brave man, a businessman, a diplomat is that his only crime was seeking to overcome criminal sanctions, looking for medicines during the time of the pandemic, and there they captured him, kidnapped him,” he recalled, qualifying Cape Verde as “infamous” for violating the principles of the Vienna Convention by arbitrarily arresting the Venezuelan diplomat.
He extended words of gratitude to the head of the National Government delegation at the Dialogue Table, Congressman Jorge Rodríguez Gómez, for his unwavering work in leading “this process that has allowed this exchange today with the government of the United States and the healthy, alive and free rescue of Alex Saab.”
