In the face of threats, hate speech and calls for violence by the far-right opposition, inside and outside the country, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, activated the Special Council for Peace (Cepaz), and the Popular Units for Peace (Upaz), with the aim of guaranteeing the comprehensive protection of the nation.
During the working day with the expanded Political and Military High Command, in Caracas, the head of State announced that Cepaz will be under the direction of the first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, and deputy of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, who will be the head and national coordinator, to dictate the guidelines to be followed by the Popular Units for Peace.
Likewise, he said, seven fundamental components will be formed, in which the following will participate: the Minister of People’s Power for Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, A/J Remigio Ceballos; the commander of the Bolivarian National Militia, M/G Javier Marcano Tabata; the commander of the Bolivarian National Guard, M/G Elio Estradas Paredes; the commander of the Bolivarian National Police, G/B Rubén Darío Santiago; the deputy, Francisco Ameliach Orta; the deputy, Pedro Infante Aparicio; and the head of Government of the Capital District, Nahum Fernández.
