CNE is prepared to guarantee the primaries and any other election

A statement from the CNE (National Electoral Council) stated that it is “prepared to guarantee the primaries and any other election” and reaffirmed its commitment to the Venezuelan people in strengthening democracy.

It assures it is ready to carry out any national, state, municipal, primary or union election, “as long as the constitutional, legal and technical requirements are met, thus guaranteeing the right to elect.”

The ratification of providing support to the National Primary Commission was proposed on September 28 by the electoral body of the Venezuelan State, “in response to the request of citizen Jesús María Casal”, head of the opposition electoral body.

This in order to guarantee a “reliable, transparent process that stimulates the participation of all voters, under a climate of absolute security,” as indicated the note.

He clarified that the CNE, in accordance with the Constitution, the Organic Law of the Electoral Power and other applicable legal provisions, “has the exclusive competence to organize elections, providing technical and logistical support to professional unions, unions, organizations with political purposes.

Also, as it points out, to the Communal Councils, Communes and any other social organizations that request it.

The statement stressed that “Venezuelans should be proud of having the best automated system in the world.”

The National Primary Commission today established its position in relation to the technical assistance offered last week by the CNE to move those elections to November 19, made five requests of a technical and logistical nature, and denied using the automated voting system.

Among the requests are: To ask for support in security matters; the transfer of electoral material; the request to let international journalists enter the country, as well as some electoral experts for accompaniment, and to have official voting centers in educational institutions.

The opposition proposed, at the beginning of this year, to hold its elections on October 22 with 13 candidates and ruled out having the support of the Electoral Power at that time.
