New Chilean ambassador delivered credentials to President Maduro

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, received this Wednesday the credentials of the newly designated Chilean ambassador to Venezuela, Jaime Gazmuri Mujica, to ratify the intention to strengthen relations between the two nations.

The protocol ceremony was held in the Sol del Perú Hall of Miraflores Palace, in the city of Caracas.

The Chilean Ambassador was appointed on May 25 by the Government of President Gabriel Boric, assuming the post that had been vacant since 2018.

Gazmuri is a 79-year-old politician who is a member of the Socialist Party and served as a senator for more than 20 years, between 1990 and 2010.

Before being appointed as Chile’s ambassador to Venezuela, the diplomat was serving as minister of the Election Qualifying Tribunal (Tricel) for the period 2020-2024.

Parallel to his political career, Jaime Gazmuri Mujica has been part of the Council of the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Chile, of the Superior Council of the Catholic University of Chile, is a member of the Society of Agrarian Economists of Chile; and the College of Agricultural Engineers of Chile.

Likewise, he has served as an academic at the University of San Martín (Buenos Aires) and the University of Talca.
