Established Special Economic Zone in La Guaira state

As part of the strategies for the development and strengthening of the national economic sector, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, created the Special Economic Zone of La Guaira state, which will be made up of three territorial axes, and whose sole authority will be Marcos Leonardo Melendez Mata.

The governor of the aforementioned entity, José Alejandro Terán, explained that this economic zone obeys a scientific method, one of deep study: “we have studied all the existing experiences in the world on Special Economic Zones, their strengths, their weaknesses. We do not have a proposal that is a copy or tracing of any foreign one, but rather we have created Special Economic Zones as a result of an in-depth debate according to the potential of each of our regions”.

In this sense, he indicated that, in the case of La Guaira, the Economic Zone is made up of three territorial axes. The first will cover the agricultural, fishing, and agro-tourism sectors, “which is in the mountain area that is Carayaca-Junco with enormous potential in agriculture; it has all the conditions to be the great orchard of Greater Caracas, for food production, storage and with a view to processing for export and foreign exchange earnings”.

According to what Terán indicated, the second axis will be made up of the industrial and logistics services areas that serve the country’s main airport with the most modern container technology in Latin America, and spans from Catia la Mar to the La Guaira parish. and passes through Urimare, Maiquetía and Carlos Soublette, where there is great potential, as well as projects identified as the installation of a Center for Light Industries.

The third axis runs from the Macuto parish to the Caruao parish and will allow investments in the field of tourism and real estate. In this regard, Terán added that in one year 21 new investments have been made with hotel chains, restaurants, entertainment centers to promote tourism in La Guaira state.

The governor highlighted that all these achievements have been achieved “trusting the call that President Nicolás Maduro made to strengthen the economy under the modality of the mixed economy where private investments intervene with the support of the State and guaranteeing legal security, this has generated in the short term more than three thousand direct and indirect jobs for families that have very stable salaries, which is strengthening the entire regional economy that is going to have an impact on the social welfare state”.

Likewise, he commented that although the Special Economic Zone was decreed in La Guaira, it will have an impact on the Greater Caracas, for which he pointed out that from a geographical point of view, the development of the axes that compose it is strategic. Finally, he stressed that “we do not improvise, this is the scientific method, deep reflection and learning under the Robinsonian ideology: Either we invent or we err.”
