Captured two subjects involved in the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci

The Sectoral Vice President for Citizen Security and Peace and also People’s Power Minister for Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, A/J Remigio Ceballos Ichaso, reported that was captured the Venezuelan citizen Gabriel Carlos Luis Salinas Mendoza, co-perpetrator of the assassination of the Paraguayan prosecutor, Marcelo Pecci, who was assassinated on May 10 on the Barú peninsula, in Cartagena de Indias, on the Colombian Caribbean coast.

Ceballos recalled that the murdered prosecutor Pecci carried out various investigations associated with money laundering and drug trafficking.

In another part of his speech, the minister showed a video in which were heard the statements of the people involved in the murder of Pecci, where they clearly indicated that they had the order to assassinate the prosecutor.

Ceballos also expressed that the detainees will not be extradited in accordance with Venezuelan laws, although he ratified the collaboration with the Colombian Government.

On the other hand, he pointed out that both citizens are detained and complying with all the processes of the Venezuelan justice.

In particular, he recalled the inaction of the previous Colombian government, headed by Iván Duque, in this case and in general in collaboration with his Venezuelan counterpart, which, in his opinion, hindered the international fight against money laundering and drug trafficking.

Last May, the specialized prosecutor against organized crime and drug trafficking Marcelo Pecci, who was on the island of Barú, in the city of Cartagena, Colombia, was assassinated while he was in that country on his honeymoon, as confirmed by Interpol.

An armed man intercepted the Paraguayan fiscal agent on a public highway, shooting him a total of three times, while his wife, by then pregnant, was unharmed from the attack.

In June, the Colombian justice system sentenced four of Pecci’s confessed murderers to 23 years and six months in prison, after accepting the charges brought by the Prosecutor’s Office.
