AN approved in first discussion Draft Law that Regulates the Use of the Name, Titles and Effigy of Simón Bolívar

The National Assembly approved this Tuesday in first discussion the Bill that Regulates the Use of the Name, Titles and Effigy of Simón Bolívar.

This instrument, approved by a clear majority, was presented by Deputy Rodbexa Poleo, who expressed the importance of adapting the changes that have taken place in national life in recent decades and the spirit of the Constitution, with the approval of this new Law:

“It is imperative to sanction a new law that enhances the importance of the Liberator for our country. Therefore, with this Law, we want to contribute to the preservation of our historical heritage, our values and cultural symbols, what is ours, what moves us, the blood that runs through our veins, which is part of our identity, sovereignty and self-determination as a people”, she pointed out.

Likewise, she highlighted that Commander Chávez described this century as “the century of hope and the resurrection of the Bolivarian dream.” Therefore, when Bolívar is invoked, “it must be from our historical memory, from knowing where we come from, from our conscience that tells us that we must exalt, honor, defend, safeguard and protect our legacy: that of Bolívar, our heroes and patriots, as a fundamental value of the Republic”, she stated.

For his part, deputy Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly, explained that this Law corresponds to the provisions of Article 99 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which states that “…The State shall guarantee the protection and preservation, enrichment, conservation and restoration of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, and the historical memory of the Nation”.
