President Nicolás Maduro reiterates before the UN commitment to the promotion of Human Rights

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, reiterated that Venezuela strengthens and promotes compliance with Human Rights in the country, as a mechanism to complement national and international cooperation.

During his participation by video message in the 49th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, which is being held in Geneva, he assured that on January 25, Venezuela participated for the third time in the mechanism of the Universal Periodic Review of the Human Rights Council of the UN.

“With a constructive and cooperative spirit, we presented our achievements, progress and pending challenges in terms of promotion and protection of Human Rights”, he also pointed out that since 2019 the Bolivarian Government has put into practice the mechanism of cooperation and technical assistance with the office of the High Commissioner, Michelle Bachelet, to continue strengthening the human rights model in our country”.

In this sense, he indicated that within the framework of this cooperation, officials of the Office “are present in Venezuela fulfilling their functions with total freedom (…). The office provides technical support to more than 10 institutions of the Venezuelan State in multiple areas of work”.

He reiterated that Venezuela’s participation in the Human Rights Council is aimed at promoting, guaranteeing and respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms within the framework of the commitment to peace.
