President Nicolás Maduro creates scientific-technological pole of Venezuela

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, announced on Wednesday the creation of the Scientific-Technological Pole of Venezuela, a unifying body of applied science for the development of the country.

From the Ayacucho Hall of Miraflores Palace, the Head of State assured: “It is impossible to think about the development of the Empowered Venezuela without the deployment of all the capacities of education, knowledge and science in all its branches of application.”

In this regard, he explained that the Venezuelan Scientific-Technological Pole will be made up of 23 research entities and will function in two dimensions: To unite in a single capacity for action all the country’s scientific institutions, and to outline a second phase of foundation and creation of new institutions that are aligned to the development of needs in education, health, communications, agriculture:

“It has been through science and technology that we have found ways to unblock problems in food production, in the recovery of the industrial apparatus”, he emphasized.

In this context, the Minister of People’s Power for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, pointed out that more than 5000 actors of the national science and technology system will be grouped in this Pole, “to add technological and productive capacities of knowledge for the solution of our needs”.

The Scientific-Technological Pole of Venezuela will direct its actions to prop up the national science and technology system, in the organization of institutions according to the prioritized areas of health, food, telecommunications, engineering, oil, processes and education.

To keep the investment:

The national president highlighted the importance of maintaining investment in the science and technology sector applied to development to strengthen the national productive apparatus and the aforementioned priority areas.

“Since President Hugo Chávez created the Ministry of Science and Technology, technological knowledge began to advance, as well as popular knowledge, then I created the Presidential Scientific-Technological Council and here we are creating the Venezuelan Scientific-Technological Pole”, he said.

As part of the practical applications needed in the immediate future, he stressed that the challenge of expanding and improving internet connections must be met:

“In telecommunications we have a challenge: to bring the Internet with the highest quality and speed in the world to the last corner of the country, with national technology. We are going to meet it!”

Similarly, he presented the set of ozonated oils created at the initiative of scientists and specialists from the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research – IVIC, with multiple medicinal and cosmetic uses: “We must link Science to the reality of the people and increase care”, he said.

Regarding the initiatives for the treatment of Covid 19, he urged to maintain the technological effort for the development of alternatives to face Sars-Cov2: “Coronavirus is here to stay, and according to experts there are worse strains coming, therefore we must be prepared to detect these new strains, to attend, cure, heal and adapt the vaccination processes for the times to come”, he concluded.
