EU Mission in Venezuela deploys 44 observers to the Regional and Municipal Elections

The Electoral Observation Mission of the European Union (EOM-EU) in Venezuela, deployed this Thursday, October 28, 44 of its members throughout the different states of the country, under the supervision of the head of the operation, MEP Isabel Santos.

The deployment coincides with the start of the campaign for the local and regional elections on November 21.

In a statement offered to the media, after meeting with the National Electoral Council (CNE), Santos explained that a “core team” of eleven people is also in Venezuela, and later will join 34 more observers, as well as a delegation from 12 parliamentarians, “several” diplomats and other observers:

“We hope to get to November 21 with the figures of 100 or more observers, which means a great mission, compared to the numbers of previous missions in Venezuela and in other countries”, explained the MEP.

Regarding the challenges they will face, she commented that the main one is, as in other countries, that of the Covid-19 pandemic, which she described as “a very great challenge”.
