President Maduro applauds creation of a bilateral commission to normalize relations between Venezuela and Colombia

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, celebrated on Wednesday the creation of a bilateral commission with Colombia to normalize diplomatic and commercial relations between the two countries:

“We applaud the initiative taken by the Legislative Power of Colombia. Colombia and Venezuela must be at peace and normalize diplomatic and commercial relations”, said the Head of State during the special journey of accompaniment to the communal power and commemoration of the 9 years of the “Golpe de Timon” (Rudder Stroke) strategy.

The Chamber of the Senate of Colombia approved the creation of a commission to set the agenda in order to normalize diplomatic and commercial relations, before which the AN will form a special legislative commission in order to initiate this process with its Colombian counterparts.

During his speech, President Nicolás Maduro pointed out that he celebrates this decision because it is necessary to solve problems in peace: “in Colombia there are six thousand Venezuelans without consular assistance, and in Venezuela we have 6 million Colombians served”, said Maduro.

Letter to Bachelet:

Maduro recalled that in a letter dated Wednesday, October 20, addressed to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, the Venezuelan State urged to guarantee the investigation of the facts and the application of exemplary sanctions to those responsible, by action and omission, of advancing the policy of stigmatization and violence against Venezuelans in Colombia, in order to “stop hate crimes, violence and xenophobia”.
