President Nicolás Maduro signs emergency decree due to rainfalls in Mérida state

         

President Nicolás Maduro signed an Emergency Decree on Tuesday to serve the population affected by the heavy rainfalls in Mérida state.

In a special broadcast, from the Presidential Command Post in Miraflores Palace, he announced the approval of «all resources in bolivars, cryptocurrencies and convertible currencies so that may be acted with the greatest forcefulness, in real time”, he ordered.

In his presentation to the people of Venezuela, the national president pointed out that «the rainfalls have strongly affected the entire country.»

He pointed out in this regard that 75 tropical waves are estimated for the rains season, of which there have already passed 38.

Before establishing direct contact with the protector of Mérida state, Jehyson Guzmán, the head of state reported that so far there had been damages in 85 municipalities throughout the country, with 8,098 homes affected; 9,322 families affected; 4 people rescued; 13 deceased people; 116 roads and 10 bridges affected.

Regarding Mérida state, the protector Jehyson Guzmán announced that a total of 11 municipalities of the entity have been affected by the rains, with a balance of: 804 affected homes; 120 houses with total loss; 400 families have lost their belongings; 71 km of roads affected and unfortunately 15 people died.

The People is protected:

Given this initial balance, President Nicolás Maduro instructed to mobilize Civil Protection and FANB personnel to protect the population from the emergency caused by the rains.

«We must accompany and support the communities that have seen their lives affected by the increasing rainfalls (…) The people must feel protected!»

Similarly, he instructed the Minister of People’s Power for Housing and Habitat, Ildemaro Villarroel to ensure the allocation of housings «to those who have lost them. Let no one stay in a shelter permanently. I hold you responsible”, he said.

The Head of State also reported that the states of the country most affected by the rainfalls so far are: Amazonas; Apure; Aragua, Barinas, Bolívar, Caracas, Delta Amacuro, Mérida, Táchira, Zulia and Monagas.

Regarding the situation in Yaracuy state, the governor of the entity, Julio León Heredia, reported the overflow of the Yurubí and Cocorote rivers causing damage to 11 water systems in the state and 27 families affected.

President Maduro ordered the security organs to remain on alert throughout the country and added that the volunteers of the Somos Venezuela Movement will be deployed throughout the country to accompany care efforts in the affected areas.
