Venezuela reiterates denounce on conspiracy to seize the Essequibo Territory

The Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, reiterated this Tuesday, that there is a conspiracy that seeks to take away the territory of the Guayana Essequibo from the country.

During the presentation of the Annual Report and Accounts before the National Assembly (AN), Rodríguez ratified Venezuela’s sovereignty over the Essequibo.

“Our country is suffering a criminal conspiracy to snatch the Essequibo Territory from us, there is no doubt that the Guayana Essequibo is ours”, said the Executive Vice President.

Rodríguez recalled that last December 18, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued a judgment in which it establishes competencies to hear on the unilateral demand filed by the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

“It is very serious. A unilateral demand to try to validate the Paris Award of 1899, which everyone knows is null and void. It has no validity whatsoever, neither in our Constitution nor in the framework of International Law”, said the Vice President.

She also indicated that the purpose is to transnationalize a territorial controversy between two countries, a situation that has been inherited from the dispossession of the British Empire “responsible for this conflict and this situation”, she added.

A videoconference between representatives of Venezuela and Guyana is scheduled for February 26 to discuss the dispute over the territory of El Essequibo.
