The European Union (EU) on Wednesday stopped acknowledging right-wing member Juan Guaidó as the alleged “interim president” of Venezuela, a figure that is not contemplated in the Venezuelan Constitution, after the former mandate of the National Assembly expired on Tuesday.
Through a statement, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, assured that they will maintain their contact “with all political and civil society actors,” as reports Europa Press.
With this action, the EU avoids supporting the illegal extension of Guaidó’s mandate as president of the Venezuelan Parliament.
