Public Ministry indicts 12 members of mafia dedicated to illicit trafficking of people by trails from Brazil

The Public Ministry charged the crimes of own corruption, illegal obtaining of profit, illegal trafficking of persons and association to commit a crime against 12 members of a criminal organization who were detained on September 5 by the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), after determining their involvement in illicit enrichment to return fellow citizens from Miami, USA, to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

This was reported by the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, who specified that this criminal organization promoted through social networks a travel package in which they offered accommodation, transfer, food, safe pass and rapid tests to screen for COVID- 19, for an amount of 1,800 dollars, which included a tour that consisted of spending one night in the city of Boa Vista, in the state of Roraima in Brazil, and then going to Venezuela without the proper sanitary controls established by the national authorities.

The following persons were arrested for these events: Daisy Blanco, Yanni Rosabal, Alejandro Poleo, Deivis Chacare, Natacha Lezama, Argentina Álvarez, Juvenal Valerio, Cisto Pereira, Osmel Yusti, Leonardo Rivas, Elio Mejías and Anyeli Rodríguez, among whom are four public officials, among doctors and officials of the Santa Elena de Uairén mayor’s office, who facilitated these criminal actions.

Evidence such as COVID-19 test formats issued by public health centers, some blank and others with personal data, was seized from the detainees; in addition to passes and laminated identity cards of Venezuelan citizens that were used for the illegal transfer of people from the border with Brazil.

In addition, the telephones collected show the connections and economic transactions directed at the illicit trafficking of people by trails from Brazil

“We will continue to fight against corruption, against the mafias that seek profit from the misery of others. Amidst the harassment, we will continue with the example of the best, for the free and sovereign homeland that we deserve”, said the Attorney General of the Republic.
