Chancellor Arreaza: Mike Pompeo handles false information about Venezuela

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jorge Arreaza, pointed out that the United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, handles manipulated information about the human rights situation in Venezuela and, at the same time, disowns the United Nations reports regarding the need to lift coercive and unilateral measures against our country, which affect the people.

“Mike Pompeo’s advisers give him manipulated and false information about UN reports. Everything indicates that they do not warn him either that those same reports demand the immediate lifting of the unilateral and illegal coercive measures of his government against Venezuela”, wrote the Chancellor on Twitter.

This message was published after the declarations made this Wednesday by Pompeo, about continuing with economic sanctions against our nation, as a measure of pressure against the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.

Pompeo mentioned the recent report on Venezuela by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, which was rejected by the Bolivarian Government during the 44th ordinary session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Said report, derived from Resolution 42/25 of the aforementioned Council, is not acknowledged by our country because it is considered as an imposition over a sovereign State.

The aforementioned Resolution, published by the Venezuelan Chancellory on its website, establishes the creation of an international mission to assess the situation of human rights in Venezuela, and “was adopted by a small group of member countries of this Council, which maintain extensive files of serious human rights violations”, questioned Ambassador Jorge Valero, permanent representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the UN.
