34 new Covid-19 cases registered in the last 24 hours to raise the total infections number to 1,245

In the last 24 hours, Venezuela detected 34 new Covid-19 cases, to raise the total number of infections to 1,245, while the number of recovered cases rises to 302 patients, after receiving free treatment, which is equivalent to a 24 ,2%.

The information was released by the sectoral vice president for Communication, Culture and Tourism, Jorge Rodríguez, after the evaluation of the Presidential Commission for the Control and Prevention of Covid-19.

He specified that of the total of new cases: 2 are from community transmission, 2 for contact with international travelers and 30 are imported cases, all coming from Colombia.

Rodríguez said that since May 9 up to date, a total of 857 positive cases have been registered, of which 667 are imported, which is equivalent to a 78% of said total, after a total of 50,686 nationals have returned massively to the country through its borders.

“We are surrounded by the exponential curve,” he said.

He added that, of the 932 active cases so far, 524 are admitted to sentinel hospitals, 391 are receiving treatment at Integral Diagnostic Centers (CDI), 17 are in private clinics, while the number of deceased stands at 11 deaths.

The Presidential Commission also detailed that of the total cases in the country, 954 correspond to imported cases, of which 778 are by international travelers, 176 for contact with international cases and only 291 cases are registered for community transmission.

Referring to the current condition of the active cases, he indicated that 817 are asymptomatic, 108 have mild acute respiratory failure, 3 have moderate acute respiratory failure and 4 are admitted to Intensive Care Units for presenting with severe acute respiratory failure.

Venezuela ranks as the country with the fewest cases per million inhabitants on the continent, with 42.6 cases of Covid-19 per million inhabitants, while the fatality rate is the lowest on the continent, standing at 0.4 deaths from million inhabitants, according to Our World in Data.

The also Minister for Communication and Information assured that until this Tuesday, 897,695 diagnostic tests for Covid-19 have been carried out in the country, which is equivalent to 29,923 tests per million inhabitants.

Description of community transmission cases detected in the last 24 hours:

– 57-year-old female, resident of the Sucre municipality of Merida state, with contact with a Covid-19 positive person. She is asymptomatic and admitted to a CDI receiving free treatment.

– Male, 57 years old, resident of the San Fernando municipality of the Apure state. He has no travel history or contact with a positive patient. It was captured through the journeys of massive and personalized screening. He is asymptomatic and admitted to a sentinel hospital receiving free treatment.
