Maduro warns that he will take radical actions to curb speculation

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, warned that he will take radical actions in the coming days in the face of the vertiginous increase in prices amidst the COVID-19 pandemic:

“I have given very clear instructions to, in the next few hours, stop the brutal speculation that have decreed these economic sectors that do not want to collaborate with the country. We have the absolute disposition to understand ourselves, or make ourselves understood”, said the Venezuelan Head of State during a work journey with his Economic Team.

He urged the Vice President for the Economic Area, Tareck El Aissami, the Minister for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Wilmar Castro Soteldo, the Minister for Alimentation, M/G Carlos Leal Tellería, and the Minister for National Commerce, Eneida Laya, to have much clarity and at the same time to remain very firm:

“They have made everything against us, the war with the dollar, they have once again activated an attack against us. I tell to the economic actors: Get serious, because we are ready to activate all mechanisms to defend the people”, he said.

In this sense, he called on the country’s working class, the peasant class, professionals, workers, to give him full support in the face of the measures he has to take “against all the sectors that seek to take advantage of the pandemic to steal from the people, to speculate against the people”.
