Unesco declared Blessed Palm as Cultural Heritage of Humanity

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) during the 14th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Bogotá, Colombia, declared the Biocultural Program of Safeguarding of the Palma Bendita (Blessed Palm) as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity:
«Venezuela achieved the 7th declaration of a cultural event as a World Heritage: the Biocultural Program of Safeguarding of the Blessed Palm. Congratulations, palm tree caretakers from Chacao, La Asunción and Valle del Espiritu Santo!”, wrote the Minister for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, on Twitter.
Venezuela participated in the aforementioned meeting, installed on Monday in the Colombian capital, to evaluate the periodic report of the safeguard of the Mapoyo language and the candidacy of the Blessed Palm as a Cultural Patrimony of Humanity.
This meeting – which was attended by 138 countries, and a total of 1,300 people registered – was held for the first time in Latin America.
The Venezuelan delegation was led by the president of the Center for Cultural Diversity, Benito Irady, who represented the country in the 24 points that formed the agenda.
