National Dialogue Board agrees to raise electoral proportion

The National Dialogue Board agreed to raise the electoral proportion with a view to the next elections to be held in the country, scheduled for 2020.
The agreement was unanimously reached by all the political parties that make up the complementary electoral table that is part of the National Dialogue Board, said Francisco Ameliach, representative of the Executive Branch:
“Today the electoral Board has achieved a very important advance. The consensus of all the forces that make life at the board was reached to activate the legal mechanisms, go to the corresponding instances and increase the proportional representation, which is fundamental for the democracy of the country», said Ameliach in statements from the Alba Caracas Hotel.
He added that they are working on formulas to establish the recommendations that should be applied in this process and reiterated that the purpose is to strengthen democracy by holding next year’s parliamentary elections:
“In the Dialogue Board there are many points of coincidence, rather than divergence. The country deserves a parliament that puts the national interest first and foremost», he said.
For his part, the leader of the «Esperanza por el Cambio» (Hope for Change) party, Javier Bertucci, urged the National Assembly (AN) in contempt to make effective the formation of the commission for the appointment of the new authorities of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
He said that the country has the opportunity to establish an electoral and constitutional route to avoid violence:
“Avoiding violence must be the position of any leader in the country. No country wants to reach violence, situations such as those in Chile and Bolivia. We are working very hard for this commission to be constituted», he explained.
Bertucci also stressed that they are analyzing the cases of people serving time for various violent acts.
He assured they believe that a group of civilians and military men would be released in December, while he welcomed the Executive’s willingness to reach an agreement on this matter.
