Inter-American Reciprocal Assistance Treaty is a mechanism to militarily attack Venezuela

“The Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR) is an instrument that is dead. It makes no sense to Latin America. Venezuela does not belong to the organization that summons it (OAS). Of 33 members, only 17 are in the treaty, and of those only 12 made the decision to activate it, it is an illegal decision”, said on Friday the Chancellor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza.
During a press conference held at the headquarters of the United Nations Organization (UN) in Geneva, the diplomat refuted the campaign of lies against Venezuela that aims to promote a military intervention against the country and demanded the lifting of the criminal blockade that directly affects the population:
“The OAS is taken by US imperialism to take actions according to their interests and in this case they activated this mechanism (the TIAR) with the spirit of militarily attacking Venezuela. We will defend our territory with our weapons system, with our Bolivarian National Armed Forces, with our militia and with the Venezuelan people”, said Arreaza.
The senior official referred to the innumerable threats of a military intervention against Venezuela by the United States government and its allies and reported that, in this scenario, President Nicolás Maduro announced an Orange Alert regarding the containment of events that are being planned against the country from Colombia:
“We are carrying out military exercises on our border because we cannot stand idly by while there are attacks being prepared against our country. We would never violate the territory of any brotherly nation, they are by no means a provocation”, he said.
In his statements, the Chancellor highlighted the innumerable evidence presented by the Bolivarian Government to international public opinion that clearly demonstrates all the terrorist plans and actions that are being carried out in Colombian territory to destabilize Venezuela.
“Where are the camps where paramilitaries are trained? Who summoned the application of the TIAR? The provocation comes from Colombia,” said the diplomat.
