Attorney General rules out impunity to punish violation of human rights in Venezuela

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tareck William Saab, affirmed this Monday that in Venezuela there has been no impunity to punish crimes related to the violation of Human Rights:

“Of the cases that have entered the International Criminal Court (ICC), the vast majority have justice in Venezuela,” he detailed.

In relation to this, he pointed out that in this case, due to the actions of the country’s justice institutions, the complementary system, that is, the ICC, does not act or interfere.

The prosecutor explained that, on the contrary, the supplementary instance would act if the State were to fail, “as it happens in Colombia,” emphasized the head of penal actions in the country.

Saab gave details of his meeting with the ICC Attorney General, Fatou Bensouda, in The Hague on November 4.

He indicated that they will submit more information and elements that demonstrate the actions of the State in the coming days before the international body; and added that he ratified to Bensouda Venezuela’s willingness to strengthen cooperation ties in the fight for the protection of human rights.

The ICC has a study on the cases Venezuela I (2018) and Venezuela II (2020), which remain in a preliminary examination with a view to making a decision.
