President Maduro demands rectification to the opposition on intention to deliver the Esequibo in order to continue dialogue

The Venezuelan head of state, Nicolás Maduro, announced on Friday that he issued instructions to the Head of the Political Dialogue Mission of the Venezuelan Government, Jorge Rodríguez, to ask the opposition sectors to make a clear statement regarding the issue of the Essequibo, denounced by the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez.
He explained that the delegation of the Bolivarian Government withdrew from the dialogue table in protest «against the boycott, against the measures of blockade and the economic, commercial and financial persecution against the people of Venezuela».
The President added that the attempt of the member of the Voluntad Popular (Popular Will) party, Juan Guaidó, to deliver the Essequibo to foreign interests now adds to the protest: “Until he rectifies on his pretense to deliver the Essequibo, we clearly remain off that Dialogue Table, for dignity, for sovereignty».
He described the delivery behavior of the Venezuelan opposition representatives as unacceptable, and raised the protest to the entire Venezuelan people: «It is unacceptable that (Guaidó) is negotiating his fictitious government in exchange for the Venezuelan territory, the Guayana Essequibo».
He recalled that this is a controversial territory on which the country seeks a solution through diplomatic channels through the Geneva Agreement of 1966: «We are also facing the unrestricted defense of the Essequibo territory that was stripped by the British Empire in the 19th century, it is a national cause», he emphasized.
President Maduro requested to transmit an energetic protest before the delegation of Norway and Guaidó’s team for this action that he described as unacceptable, and reiterated that he believes in dialogue and peace of the country, but does not accept any treason.
